Amelia Island is part of the Sea Islands chain of barrier islands, on the U.S. state of Florida’s Atlantic coast. It has a history of Spanish, French, British and American rule. State Parks
Northeast Florida has a very unique flora and fauna which you can easily discover in our near by National Parks. Keep your eyes peeled for the occasional turtle or armadillo passing and make sure to look up into the sky so you can see many of bird species in their natural habitat. Picturesque Big Talbot Island State Park is adjacent to the Nassau Sound and is primarily a nature preserve where you will be able to bird watch and a place with endless photo opportunities. You can either hike the Black Rock Trail to the shore line where you will get to explore fallen, petrified trees or take a bike route along the evergreen A1A highway.
The park also features picnicking facilities, and 5 hiking trails which wind throughout the island, taking hikers on an intimate journey into one of the country’s most prized and well-protected natural parks.
Big Talbot is also known for great fishing, you will have to apply for a fishing license Click Here for more information. A Florida Fishing license will permit access to speckled trout, striped bass, bluefish, redfish, flounder, mullet and whiting.

The Fort Clinch State Park is a Florida State Park, located on a peninsula near the northernmost point of Amelia Island, along the Amelia River.
The park’s three-mile shoreline offers a wide variety of family-friendly recreational activities including swimming, fishing, sunbathing and wildlife viewing. Shelling and shark-tooth hunting are popular activities near the jetty and along the St. Mary’s Inlet.
Visit historic Fort Clinch and step back to the year 1864, as soldiers reenact life during the Civil War. Explore the many rooms, galleries and grounds of the fort as you learn how the soldiers worked and lived each day.
